Specialized training course for pig farmers from five states concludes at GADVASU

Ludhiana (25.02.2012):  The Department of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Extension Education, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, organized a specialized pig farming training course from 21-25 Feb, 2012. Dr. H.K. Verma, Course Director, Prof. cum- Head, Department of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Extension Education, in his concluding lecture interacted with the farmers and dealt with their queries. Forty nine trainees including one woman from Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Chandigarh and New Delhi participated in the course. Participants were informed about pig breeds, sheds, balanced diet, vaccination, hygiene, meat production, value addition to pork, marketing as well as bank loaning procedure. A visit to the University pig farm, Government Pig Breeding Farm Mattewara and an innovative  and progressive pig farmer S. Balwinder Singh Jhande was organized for the practical training as well as exposure visit. During the training course practical session was conducted to learn the various procedures viz; recording of temperaute, pulse,respiration, restraining and handling for medication and other interventions.  and University Clinics and Information centre was organized for witnessing the facilities available in GADVASU for the farmers. Dr. Ranjodhan Singh Sahota, Director Extension Education, GADVASU, Ludhiana told that   university is organizing such training on regular basis viz Pig, dairy poultry, goat, fish farming and many other tailor made courses as per demand and university is always ready to serve the farmers through various extension programmes. Further he said, University has direct linkage with the farmers through various associations like pig, dairy and fish farmers associations which come to the university every month for seeking solutions to their problems. The trainees appreciated the efforts of the GADVASU for working for the welfare of the livestock and farmers .Trainees profile is very interesting ranging from matriculate, graduate to engineering-professionals.  All the trainees procured GADVASU publications and subscribed for monthly magazine “Vigyanik Pashu Palan”  Dr. Jaspal Singh Hundal, coordinator of the training programme thanked the trainees for participating in the training course and apprised the officials that this was the one of the best batch of trainees which has come to the university for undergoing training as they were very interactive , enthusiastic and keen learner, as I found and university hopes to have a long term association with them.
