Bajwa welcomes food security ordinance

Chandigarh, July 4(Bharatsandesh news)- Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee President Mr.Partap Singh Bajwa today welcomed the UPA Government’s decision to issue ordinance on Food security to provide food to 800 million people of the country.

On a statement issued here Mr.Bajwa said that food security bill was a dream project of Congress president and UPA Chairperson Mrs. Sonia Gandhi and it will ensure food to 67 percent of the total population of India. He said that the step taken by UPA government was big leap in fight against poverty. He said that now it was the duty of the opposition parties to support the bill on floor of the Parliament. He advised BJP to rise above the communal politics and work in the interest of common man.

Mr.Bajwa said that Punjab government had started atta-Dal scheme for the people below poverty line but it proved only an election gimmick. He said that poor people who were not getting subsidized food in Punjab would be eligible for food grains at nominal price i.e. rice and wheat at Rs.3 and 2 per kg and millers at Rs.1 per kg. He said that food grains would be supplied through Public Distribution System.

Mr.Bajwa demanded from SAD-BJP government to conduct fresh survey of people living under poverty line so that maximum people could take advantage of the food security. He said that center government would ensure that no food lying in the godowns go wasted and distributed to deserving people.
