Chandigarh, September 29: UIDAI, Regional Office, Chandigarh is all set to launch a special campaign to cover the marginalized and socially disadvantaged sections of the society in Punjab, Chandigarh, Himachal Pradesh & Haryana.
Disclosing this here today, Mrs. Keshni Anand Arora, Deputy Director General , stated that slum areas, deaf and dumb institutions and special category people would be enrolled on priority. Jujharnagar in Mohali, Sanjay Gandhi nagar in Ludhiana, Krishna Nagar in Shimla, Tutikandi in Shimla and Blind School, Deaf and Dumb Home and slum areas of Chandigarh were being covered from today and in the coming weeks. A special drive for differently abled, marginalised and homeless people was the core focus area, she stated.
Apprising of the efforts made by the Regional Office, She informed that the State of Himachal Pradesh has made 19.5 lacs enrolments so far covering 29% of the population. Punjab has touched 43 lacs covering 16% of the population, Haryana is at 6.50 lacs, Chandigarh has made 4.5 lacs enrolments covering 44% of the total population and J&K, which went live recently, has made a beginning with 5000 enrolments. She further said that 75000 to 80000 enrolments per day are being made in the Region. At the National level, AP has generated 1.28 crores aadhaar numbers, Maharashtra has generated 92.66 lakh, Karnataka has generated 34.31 lakh aadhaar numbers, and Chandigarh Region has generated 24 lakh aadhaar numbers. A total of 3.84 crores of aadhaar numbers have been generated in the country and 10 crore enrolments have been made, she added.
She said that aadhaar enrolments had already been started in all States and Union Territories. She urged the press representatives to act as ambassadors of UIDAI in order to sensitise the people about the basic document requirement for getting enrolled into the system. This would facilitate the UIDAI in making the experience of enrolment for a resident as pleasant as possible.
Earlier, the Regional Office, UIDAI, Chandigarh today also observed the first anniversary of handing over Aadhaar Card as on the same day last year the Prime Minister had handed over the first Aadhaar number to Ms. Ranjana Sonawane at Tembhli Village in District Nandurbar of Maharashtra. Speaking on this historic moment, Mrs. Keshni Anand Arora, DDG, congratulated some of the eco-system partners who have made a remarkable contribution in enrolling residents under the jurisdiction of Regional Office, Chandigarh. The Director(IT), Himachal Pradesh, Sh. Rajneesh Kumar and Deputy Secretary UID Punjab, Sh. Parminder Singh were honoured for the contribution made by the State of Himachal Pradesh and Punjab respectively for enrolling residents and implementing the processes of Aadhaar. She also honoured Sh. Kuldeep Kumar, Ms. Nazrana, Ms. Reena and Ms. Preeti who were adjudged as the best operators in the Region. Welcoming State Bank of Patiala as the latest eco-system partners for making Aadhaar enrolments, she expressed her happiness and hoped that the State Bank of Patiala would also contribute to the cause of the marginalized sections of the society in terms of making enrolments.
