LUDHIANA – A field day on ‘direct seeded rice’ was organized by the Department of Agronomy, Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana in collaboration with Farmers Advisory Service Scheme, Patiala and Bayer Cropscience Ltd. at village Balbere, district Patiala, recently. Dr. M.S.Gill, Director of Extension Education who was the Chief Guest stressed upon the farmers to grow direct seeding of rice, in order to conserve the natural resources and follow the new agricultural practices as recommended by PAU. Dr. Gurmeet Singh Buttar, Head, Department of Agronomy advised farmers to adopt the subsidiary occupations along with the crops in order to increase the farm income. Dr. S.S.Walia, Agronomist gave a detailed introduction on cultivation on direct seeded rice. About 500 progressive farmers attended the field day.
