DEDICATED FUND TO BE CREATED FOR THE TREATMENT OF POOR PATIENTS SUFFERING FROM CANCER

MOHALI (Bharat sandesh) – Punjab Chief Minister Mr. Parkash Singh Badal today envisioned that Punjab would soon emerge as a front runner state in the health care sector in the country, which was growing swiftly to provide the best diagnostic and treatment facilities to the people at par with world class health care institutions.   
            Addressing a public gathering after inaugurating Rs. 113  crore state-of-the-art Super Specialty Cancer & Cardiac Hospital with super specialization in 3 major disciplines cancer (Medical, Radiation & Oncology), Cardiac-care, Orthopaedics & Trauma here, Mr. Badal said that the GoI had already adjudged Punjab as the best state with excellent medical and health care infrastructure.
Announcing to create a dedicated fund for the treatment of the poor patients afflicted with cancer in the newly setup Max Super Specialty Health Care Centre Hospital at Mohali and Bathinda, Mr. Badal said that the specific fund would consist of Rs. 8 crore as upfront consideration already paid by the Max Health Care in addition to 5 percent of annual gross revenue.   This fund would be deposited in the local account of the hospital and managed by the Rogi Kalyan Smiti and would be exclusively utilized for financing the medical treatment of poor patients suffering from cancer.
Expressing gratitude to the Chairman and Managing Director of Max Health Care Bhai Analjit Singh for establishing these two hospitals in Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode in a record time of 18 months, Mr. Badal said that there was an urgent need to set up these ultra modern hospitals so as to effectively tackle the menace of growing incidence of cancer in the state.  He hoped that Max Super Specialty Cancer Hospital at Bathinda would prove to be a boon for the patients afflicted with Cancer in the Malwa Belt as now they could avail of the best  health care facilities in Bathinda instead of rushing to Delhi, Bikaner and Mumbai for the treatment of Cancer.  He also urged Bhai Analjit Singh to set up such more hospitals across the state and stated another prestigious hospital equipped with the latest machinery for the treatment of Cancer would be established soon at Bathinda at a cost of Rs.65 crore by the Baba Farid University of Health Sciences to combat the high incidence of cancer in the cotton belt.
The Chief Minister reiterated his commitment to provide the best
medical care and diagnostic facilities to the people at affordable rates.  He said the State Govt. had already spent Rs. 340 crore for
setting up a network of district hospitals, sub-divisional hospitals and primary health Centres equipped with the best medical infrastructure.   Apart from this the state government had already spent Rs.200 crore for the upgradation and renovation of government medical College Amritsar besides Rs.73 crore and Rs.85 crore for the Govt. Medical Colleges of Faridkot at Patiala respectively.  He also mentioned that Punjab government had already taken an initiative to create a corpus fund Rs. 20 crore during the current financial year to provide free treatment to the poor patients suffering from Cancer. He categorically said that massive investment in the health care sector during the SAD-BJP regime of four-and-a-half-years was beyond any comparison of Congress’ tenure of over 30 to 40 years.
In his welcome address the Chairman and Managing Director of Max
Health Care Bhai Analjit Singh said that Mr. Badal was the moving spirit behind the establishment of these two Super Specialty hospitals in Punjab.  He said that Mr. Badal’s dream has come true only due to his sheer blessings, vision, support and inspiration. This initiative had brought us a step closer to our mission of providing excess to international class infrastructure, quality health care and super specialized treatment of critical illnesses such as a cardiac ailments, cancer and allied disciplines to the people of Punjab.   He added “As a part of the PPP agreement and in our endeavour to serve the under privileged of the region; 5% of gross revenue generated by the hospital, shall be passed back to the government to help them fund treatment of the poor”.
Prominent amongst others who were present on occasion included; Health & Family Welfare Minister Mr. Satpal Gosian, Principal Secretary Health & Family Welfare Mr. Satish Chandra, Special Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Mr. KJS Cheema and Managing Director Punjab Systems Health Corporation Mrs. Raji P. Srivastava besides several prominent party
leaders and workers of SAD-BJP and members of SGPC.
