Chandigarh, October 03: Government agencies and private millers procured more than 15919 tonnes of Paddy till last evening against the 212004 tonnes paddy procurement previous year.
Out of total procurement of 15919 tonnes of paddy in all the procurement centers of Punjab, Government agencies procured 8969 tonnes of paddy (56.3%) till date whereas private traders procured 6950 tonnes (43.7%) of paddy. Till October 02, PUNGRAIN had procured 8947 tonnes (99.7%) whereas PUNSUP procured 15 tonnes (0.2%) and PAIC was able to procure 07 tonnes (0.1 %) of paddy. The spokesman added that District Amritsar with 2644 tonnes of procurement was leading in procurement operations whereas District Kapurthala with 1760 tonnes of procurement was at second slot and district Muktsar 1723 tonnes of procurement ranked at third position. The State Government has set up 1745 procurement centres and activated its total machinery to ensure smooth procurement of paddy, the spokesman added.
