Chandigarh – Government agencies and private millers procured more than 58974 tonnes of Paddy till last evening against 375348 tonnes procurement of previous year.
Out of total procurement of 58974 tonnes of paddy in all the procurement centers of Punjab, Government agencies procured 35448 tonnes of paddy (60.1%) till date whereas private traders procured 23526 tonnes (39.9%) of paddy. Till October 3, PUNGRAIN had procured 32933 tonnes (92.9%) whereas MARKFED procured 420 tonnes (1.2%). PUNSUP procured 855 tonnes (2.4%) , PSWC procured 320 tonnes (0.9%) whereas PAIC was able to procure 895 tonnes (2.5 %) of paddy.
The Central Government agency FCI had been able to procure 15 tonnes.
The spokesman added that District Amritsar with 11034 tonnes of procurement was leading in procurement operations whereas District Tarn Taran with 11469 tonnes of procurement was at second slot and district Faridkot a 6130 tonnes of procurement ranked at third position.
The State Government has set up 1745 procurement centres and activated its total machinery to ensure smooth procurement of paddy, the spokesman added.
