Chandigarh – Government agencies and private millers procured more than 862427 tonnes of Paddy till last evening against 1401054 tonnes procurement of previous year.
Out of total procurement of 862427 tonnes of paddy in all the procurement centers of Punjab, Government agencies procured 771102 tonnes of paddy (89.4%) till date whereas private traders procured 91325 tonnes (10.6%) of paddy. Till October 7, PUNGRAIN had procured 240450 tonnes (31.2%) whereas MARKFED procured 153056 tonnes (19.8%). PUNSUP procured 187195 tonnes (24.3%) , PSWC procured 91797 tonnes (11.9%) whereas PAIC was able to procure 93502 tonnes (12.1 %) of paddy.
The Central Government agency FCI had been able to procure 5102 (0.7%) tonnes.
The spokesman added that District Tarn Taran with 135383 tonnes of procurement was leading in procurement operations whereas District Jalandhar with 103898 tonnes of procurement was at second slot and district Kaputhala with 101520 tonnes of procurement ranked at third position.
The State Government has set up 1745 procurement centres and activated its total machinery to ensure smooth procurement of paddy, the spokesman added.
