Religion and science are reflections of truth and concentrate upon truth – Prof. A.S. Brar

Two-day workshop on Sri Guru Granth Sahib inaugurates at Guru Nanak Dev University
Amritsar – A two-day workshop on ‘Studies on Sri Guru Granth Sahib: Utilization of Computer and Digital Technology’ inaugurated here today at the Conference Hall of the Guru Nanak Dev University. This workshop was being organized by the Centre on Studies in Sri Guru Granth Sahib of the University.
               Prof. A.S. Brar, Vice Chancellor inaugurated the workshop while Giani Joginder Singh Vedanti, Former Jathedar of Sri Akal Takhat Sahib presided over. Dr. Gurnek Singh, Vice Chancellor, Guru Granth Sahib World University, Fatehgarh Sahib was the chief guest.  Eminent Sikh Scholar, Dr. Balkar Singh delivered the key-note address and Dr. Balwant Singh Dhillon, Director, Centre on Studies in Sri Guru Granth Sahib introduced the establishment and activities of Center. The Second Session of the Workshop was conducted by Dr. Kulbir Singh Thind from California
               Prof. A.S. Brar said that we will try to maintain Centre on Studies in Sri Guru Granth Sahib according to International standards. He said that religion and science are not contradictory rather complimentary to each other because both are reflections of truth and concentrate upon truth. He said that computer has revolutionized the life on planet so we should utilize this technology for the development of the society.
               In his Key-note address Dr. Balkar singh said that computer technology is helper to mankind but in modern days, it is dominating human psychology. He said that we have become slave to the scientific tools. He said that we are devoted of Sikh Scripture and other literature but not a serious reader. In this context, he said that we should sustain co-ordinate between tradition and academy.
Dr. Gurnek Singh said that to collect the information regarding scriptures and religious is not sufficient but we will have to understand and follow the divine massage of prophets and saints. He said that Academy is apart of tradition they should not impose its standards upon each other.
Giani Joginder Singh Vedanti said that pronunciation and punctuation of the text of Sri Guru Granth Sahib is very significant, thus use of Gurbani on computer needs our attention.
Earlier, Dr. Balwant Singh Dhillon welcomed the scholars, researchers and teachers from colleges and universities throughout the region. He said that it is our first major function that will focus on the cyber techniques in the context of Sikh Studies.
Dr. Gurbachan  Singh Bachan, Dr. Jaswinder Kaur Dhillon, Dr. Gursharanjit Singh, Dr. Manwinder Singh, Dr. Kashmir Singh, Prof. Avtar Singh Ramgarhia College were also present there. Scholars, Teachers, Research Fellows and students throughout the region also participated in workshop.
