PAU SIGNS MoU WITH MODERN INSECTICIDE LIMITED

LUDHIANATo check the incidence of Phalaris minor (gulli danda) on wheat crop, the Department of Agronomy of Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Modern Insecticide Limited (MIL), Ludhiana. Dr Baldev Singh Dhillon, PAU Vice-Chancellor and S. Surinder Singh Kunar, Patron, signed the MoU in presence of Director of Extension Education Dr M.S. Gill, Head of the Department of Agronomy Dr G.S. Bhutter, Senior Extension Specialist (Agronomy) Dr Surjit Singh, Assistant Agronomist Dr Tarundeep Kaur, Manager Development (MIL) Priya Verma and General Manager (MIL) Arun Kumar.

The project will valid for two years. With the continuous use of the same group of herbicides, particularly, post-emergence group, it has been observed that in some parts of Punjab, the resistance to Phalaris minor has developed. To overcome this problem, the Punjab will be divided into two zones, field demonstrations will be conducted in all the districts and farmers will be educated about the spraying techniques under this project.
