Amritsar,- The Guru Nanak Dev University Teachers’ Association (GNDUTA) had been protesting against the alleged dismissal of Dr. G.S. Bhalla of the Commerce and Business Management Department and some other issues. The Vice-Chancellor constituted a committee to negotiate with GNDUTA to diffuse the situation and to arrive at an agreement. The committee held several rounds of talks with GNDUTA office bearers and executive members. Final rounds of talks were held on 11 October after which the GNDUTA executive handed over to the Vice-Chancellor a draft agreed upon between the GNDUTA and the negotiating committee. The Vice-Chancellor gave his approval to the darft which was to be presented to the General House to day i.e. on 12 October.
The president Dr. Balwinder Singh took a complete u-turn and conveyed to the teachers an altered draft which the house rejected. As a consequence the Association gave go ahead to the proposal from the president to continue with the Dharna.
