NO VOTES TO BE DELETED WITHOUT NOTICE TO VOTER -ELECTION COMMISSION ISSUES DIRECTIONS

Chandigarh – The Election Commission of India today  said that being an Election year no votes shall be deleted without issuance of prior notice to the affected persons.
          This was stated by Chief Electoral Officer Ms. Kusumjit Sidhu in a press statement. She said that these instructions shall remain in force till the elections to the Punjab assembly are held. Ms. Sidhu said that instructions in these regards have already been issued to all the Electoral Registration Officers. She said that no vote can be deleted from the list without issuing prior notice to the concerned persons while the only exception is in the case of death of a voter where in the lists supplied by the Registrar Birth and Death.    She said that Electoral Registration Officers shall also display the lists of voters purposed to be added /deleted on the notice board of their respective offices.
          Ms. Sidhu said that the process of accepting claims, objections and updation of Electoral Role would remain in process till October 20, 2011. She  said that if any persons desiring of make his/her vote or deleting vote or seeking correction in details  may do so in Form-6, Form-6A, Form -7, Form 8 and Form 8-A respectively, which available with  all Booth Level Officers BLO)  and Electoral  Registration Officers in the state.
