4-day Zonal Youth Festival of zone ‘A’ inaugurated at Guru Nanak Dev University

Amritsar – Prof. A.S. Brar, Vice-Chancellor of the Guru Nanak Dev University inaugurated the Zonal Youth Festival of zone ‘A’ by lighting Candles here today in the Dashmesh Auditorium of the University. More than 18 affiliated colleges of Amritsar district are participating in 34 items of Music, Theatre, Dance, Literary & Fine Arts. This festival would be concluded on October 17.
 Dr. Jagjit Kaur, Director Youth Welfare welcomed the chief guest and student-artists. She also honoured Prof. Brar with a memento on this occasion.
Prof. Brar while addressing the student-artists said that these festivals are very important for the development of youths. He said that University is first in North Zone Inter-University Youth Festival and second in All India Inter-University Youth Festival. He credited all the Students, Teachers and Principals of the affiliated colleges.
He advised the students to be better human being. He said that it is with honesty and strong morality that  you can progress in this world. He said that the student-artists should think beyond victory and defeat.. He exhorted students to work hard with dedication.
 Referring to the Basti Nau University College at Jalandhar, he said that Basti Nau College Building was on rent for thelast 40 years. And now the NRI owners had been pressurising us to vacate the  building. They were not claiming rent and had approached the courts of law. He said that we vacated the building under the orders of the court.
He said that this University named after Great Guru Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji, who has taught us to be always on the side of justice and be judicious in behaviour and attitude. Morality of Guru Nanak does not teach us to encroach upon the rights of others.  He said when we vacated the rented and dilapidated building people have started crying foul that we should not have done so. How do I become a culprit in handing over the building to the rightful owners? He asked.
He also advised the judges in the Youth Festival to give their decision without fear and prejudice and without coming under pressure.
While talking about the facilities given to student-artists, he said that from now onwards participants  for National Level competitions, University would provide 2nd class AC train travelling facility and a daily allowance of Rs. 250/-. He asked the students to bring their problems in the notice of University authority so that proper solutions could be found.
Finally he advised the youth to follow the philosophy of Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji and work for the bright future of the country and the Punjab with honesty, integrity, hard work and dedication.
