Prof. Prem Kumar Dhumal, Chief Minister visited the historic local Sri Dasmesh Asthan Gurudwara at Nahan last evening and offered prayers. The Gurudwara dates back to 1685 AD has historical importance.
The tenth Guru of Sikhs, Guru Govind Singh ji visited Nahan on request of the then Raja Medani Prakash to help him defeat Raja Fateh Shah of Srinagar (Tiri Gharwal). The Lion fossils found here were believed to be that of Mahabharta times. Guru Gobind Singh also gifted the sword to the Raja on his request which even today is possessed by Maharani Padmani Devi, the descendant of Raja Medani Prakash.
Presently Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee has taken up the responsibility of re-construction of the Gurudwara, since March 2011. The Lion fossils were found in the debris below old ‘Palki Sahib’, during the construction and were believed to be of Jaidrath, whose soul was released from the lion’s body by Guru Gobind Singh.
