The teachers’ struggle for academic justice and righteousness which began on the 4th October, 2011 seemed to be headed for a new turn with the teachers’ considering ways to agitate the stir against the autocracy prevalent in the administrative ways. The dharna affront the VC office continued as a mark of protest with a large number of faculty members from various departments being a part of it. The members registered their dissatisfaction with the dubious silence of the VC over the issue and making the academicians and academics suffer.
At the dharna, Dr. D.S. Sogi, Secretary, GNDUTA stressed the indispensability of an objective criterion for the promotions of teachers and emphasized on the bigger motive of building credible systems where procedures assume significance rather than individuals. He stressed on the tearing need to lend eminence to systems over few individuals and their whims.
Dr. Balwinder Singh, President, GNDUTA, apprised the present faculty about the progress in the matter till date. He also informed about the meeting held on the 16th October with the Secretary PFUCTO and other members whereby the matter and various developments were reviewed pragmatically and ways to intensify the struggle were dwelt on. The audience was informed that with the support of Punjab level bodies and meaningful deliberations, action plans for the future struggle of teachers can be discussed for quicker and meaningful conclusion. Dr. Singh made a sincere appeal to the VC that he should accept the genuine demands of the teachers with an open and rational mind at the earliest failing which teachers will have to resort to intensify the movement for quicker culmination of the stir.
