Bathinda School wins Inter-DPS basket ball tournament…DPS Amritsar stands third

Amritsar  (RASHMI TALWAR) – On the final day of the North Zone Inter-DPS (under 14) basketball tournament held in the courts of Delhi Public School , Amritsar here DPS Bathinda bagged the overall trophy defeating DPS Manali by a whisker.
While DPS Bathinda team shone with a score of  36 baskets to win the title, beating rivals DPS Manali who lost only by one basket scoring 35 baskets to the winning team. The final match was played during the closing ceremony of the three-day tournament that concluded here today and was presided over by Ms. Sukhbir Kaur District sports officer.
The third position was bagged by the host DPS Amritsar scoring 41 baskets over DPS Jalandhar who put a lackluster show with only 9 baskets.
Gursharan Singh of DPS Bathinda won the best player’s trophy and was honored by the chief guest in the presence of school Prinicpal Mrs Sangeeta Singh who emphasized on the importance of sports as an outlet for fitness and agility and promoting team spirit and competitiveness amongst students.
Earlier the grand opening ceremony saw the participation of D.P.S. schools from Amritsar, Bathinda, Jalandhar, Chandigarh, Manali, Khanna.  Arjuna awardee – Ms. Suman Sharma, a renowned basket ball player presided over the inaugural session and declared the tournament open along with the  member of School management Mr. Akash Khandelwal.
