62.69 LAKH TONNES PADDY PROCURED IN PUNJAB

Chandigarh – More than 62.69 lakh tonnes of Paddy   was procured by the Government agencies and private millers in Punjab till last evening against 57.96 lakh tonnes procurement of previous year.
An Official Spokesman here today said that out of total procurement of 6,26,9613 tonnes of paddy, Government agencies procured 59.58 lakh tonnes (95.0%) and private traders procured 3,10,891 tonnes (5.0%) of paddy till date.
He said that PUNGRAIN had procured 16.41 lakh tonnes (27.5%), followed by PUNSUP with 14.99 lakh tonnes (25.2%), MARKFED with 13.26 lakh tonnes (22.3%), PSWC with 07.44 lakh tonnes (12.5%) and  PAIC with 06.35 lakh tonnes (10.7 %) of paddy. The Central Government agency FCI had been able to procure 1,10,752 (1.9%) tonnes.
Patiala District with 05.94 lakh tonnes of procurement was leading in procurement operations whereas Jalandhar District with 05.77 lakh tonnes of procurement was at second slot and Ferozepur District with 05.76 lakh tonnes of procurement ranked at third position, he added.  
The State Government has set up 1745 procurement centers and activated its total machinery to ensure smooth procurement of paddy, the spokesman added.
