University Institute of Emerging Areas in Social Sciences (UIEASS) organized an event ‘Shaheedon Ko Naman’

CHANDIGARH – Centre for Police Administration, University Institute of Emerging Areas in Social Sciences (UIEASS) organized an event ‘Shaheedon Ko Naman’ to mark the Police Commemoration Day at Panjab University on 21st October, 2011.
The event began with a march of Students and Faculty of the Centre for Police Administration and students studying Police Administration in Government College for Girls Sector 11 & 42 along with their teachers accompanied by a Chandigarh Police Contingent from Centre for Police Administration, New Building of Emerging Areas in Social Sciences (Near Botany Department) and culminated at the Student Centre.
At the Student Centre, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. R. C. Sobti joined the students, faculty and police contingent in paying homage to the brave police martyrs by laying the wreath. He exhorted the students to learn and inculcate discipline, dedication and commitment from the Police personnel.
Prof. Anil Monga, Coordinator, Centre for Police Administration while paying the homage stated that this day is for remembering all those brave men and women who showed exemplary courage and sacrificed their lives for defending the Nation.
D.S.P. Suman Kumar, who led the Contingent of Chandigarh Police shared with the students the martyrdom of 10 police personnel on 21st October, 1959 in an ambush laid by the Chinese Army. He informed that since then, 21st October is being organized as Police Commemoration Day.
The other distinguished guests present on the occasion included Prof. A. S. Ahluwalia, Prof. R. K. Sharma, Prof. Pawan Kamra, Prof. Rajan Gaur, Prof. Akshaya Kumar, Prof. Kiranpreet Kaur, Dr. Swaranjit Kaur, Mr. Ajay Sharma, Mr. Jagan Nath, Dr. Namita Gupta, Ms. Upneet Kaur Mangat, Dr. Monika, Sh. Dhawan (P. U. Chief Security Officer), Dr. P. S. Kang, Dr. Akshat Mehta, Mr. Kuldeep Singh and media personnel.
A Blood Donation Camp was also organized to mark this Day in which a large number of students and faculty members enthusiastically donated Blood. Prof. B. S. Ghuman, Dean Faculty of Arts was amongst the dignitaries who visited the Blood Donation Camp to motivate the donors, Prof. Anil Monga, Coordinator of the Centre informed.
