· NOW MAYORS ALSO TO GET CONSTITUENCY AND MEETING ALLOWANCE
CHANDIGARH, OCTOBER 23: The Punjab Government today substantially enhanced the various allowances and honorarium to Mayors, Senior Deputy Mayors, and Deputy Mayors of Corporations, Chairmen and Trustees of Improvement Trusts besides those of Councilors. They would be eligible for enhanced honorarium and allowances with effect from 1st October 2011.
Disclosing this here today Mr. Tikshan Sud, Local Govrnment Minister said that honorarium of Mayors has been enhanced from Rs 15000 to Rs 20000 per month, of Senior Deputy Mayors from Rs 12000 to Rs 16000 per month and Deputy Mayors from 10000 to 12500 per month.
He said that the telephone allowance of Senior Deputy Mayors and Deputy Mayors has been enhanced from Rs 1200 to Rs 2000 per month. He said that now Mayors would be entitled for constituency allowance of Rs 10,000 per month besides meeting allowance of Rs 500 per day subject to maximum of Rs 5000 per month. The constituency allowance of Senior Deputy Mayors and Deputy Mayors has been enhanced from Rs 9000 to Rs 10000 per month. Similarly, the meeting allowance of Senior Deputy Mayors and Deputy Mayors has been enhanced from Rs 300 from Rs 500 per day subject to maximum limit of Rs 5,000 per month.
Mr. Sud said that the daily allowance of Municipal Councilors has also been enhanced from Rs 300 to Rs 500 per day subject to maximum of Rs 5000. The Constituency allowance of elected councilors has been enhanced from Rs 7000 to Rs 10000 month and their telephone allowance has been enhanced from Rs 1000 to Rs 2000 per month.
Announcing the bonanza for Improvement Trusts in the state, Mr. Sud said that Honorarium for Chairmen of class one Improvement Trusts has been enhanced from Rs 10,000 to Rs 12500 per month and honorarium of Class II trusts has been raised from Rs 7500 to Rs 10000 per month. The Chairmen of Class III trusts would now get Rs 7500 per month against earlier Rs 5000 per month. The trustees of all these trusts would now get Rs 500 per meeting against Rs 300 being provided to them.
