Chandigarh – More than 91.15 lakh tonnes of Paddy was procured by the Government agencies and private millers in Punjab till last evening against 83.65 lakh tonnes procurement of previous year.
An Official Spokesman here today said that out of total procurement of 91,15,171 tonnes of paddy, Government agencies procured 87.68 lakh tonnes (96.2%) and private traders procured 3,46,382 tonnes (3.8%) of paddy till date.
He said that PUNGRAIN had procured 25.04 lakh tonnes (28.6%), followed by PUNSUP with 21.96 lakh tonnes (25.0%), MARKFED with 19.87 lakh tonnes (22.6%), PSWC with 10.44 lakh tonnes (11.9%) and PAIC with 08.87 lakh tonnes (10.1 %) of paddy. The Central Government agency FCI had been able to procure 1,48,372 (1.7%) tonnes.
Ludhiana District with 09.67 lakh tonnes of procurement was leading in procurement operations whereas Patiala District with 09.49 lakh tonnes of procurement was at second slot and Sangrur District with 07.97 lakh tonnes of procurement ranked at third position, he added.
The State Government has set up 1745 procurement centres and activated its total machinery to ensure smooth procurement of paddy, the spokesman added.
