Chemistry day celebrated at Khalsa College, experts deliberate importance of chemistry to deal with rising pollution, global warming

Amritsar – The day-long deliberations were held by experts on latest research and trends in the field of Chemistry at local picturesque Khalsa College, which celebrated `Chemistry Day’ with much fervor as students and teachers participated in discussions, holding competitions. The experts discussed importance of chemistry in our daily lives, when we are facing challenges of rising pollution and global warming and how can the chemistry tackle these issues.
Dr. MS Hundal, Dean, College Development Council, Guru Nanak Dev University, who was the chief guest at the function, said the Chemistry has significance in our day to day life as fraction of change in the molecules can leads to devastations and change the earth forever. “The Chemistry needs to be popularized amongst younger generation’’, he stressed.
Dr. SS Tandon from Kent State University (USA) said global warming is a major challenge today before the world and efforts must be made to protect the Ozone layer. Prof. Manoj Kumar from Department of Chemistry, GNDU, narrated the history of Chemistry and how each of the discoveries made in each field changed the life on earth. Principal of the College Dr. Daljit Singh welcomed guest speakers and congratulated the students and teachers on Chemistry Day.
In poster making competition, Ravinder and Pawandeep from BBK DAV College stood first, Harmanpreet Singh and Simarpreet from Khalsa College stood Second and Third respectively. In the Power Point presentation, Ashima Mehra from DAV College stood First, Shivani Arora, Amanpreet Kaur from Khalsa College stood Second and Third respectively. In the Quiz competition Harpreet, Sapna, Jaskirat from Lyalpur Khalsa College stood First, Abhishek, Pooja, Manjit from DAV, Gagandeep, Diya were Second and Manpreet from BBK DAV stood Third.
