Chandigarh – Dr. Malti Thapar President Punjab Pradesh Mahila Congress & Former Minister paid glowing tributes to Former Prime Minister of India Smt. Indira Gandhi on her 27th Martyrdom day. She said Smt. Indira Gandhi was instrumental in changing the political scenario around the world. Particularly Indian Subcontinent changed its character during her regime. After 1971 war the constant threat of Pakistan to India was eliminated permanently and a new nation Bangla Desh came into existence.
Dr. Thapar said that Mrs. Gandhi always though and worked for poorest of the poor as inherited this feeling. She brought in drastic changes by abolishing of privy purses of princely states, nationalizing the banks, and 20 point programs etc. for removal of poverty. Today country has seen the results that social control on the banking industry which has saved the Indian economy in the present word wide recession. .
Dr. Thapar said that I am of considered opinion that communalism and separatism are the greatest threat for the Indian society. Mrs. Gandhi fought these forces tooth and nail. She said the gap between the rich and poor is widening day by day. We shall have to narrow this gap by uplifting the poor and providing them the basic amenities of the life. The spread of Naxal movement in part of the country, indicates that we need drastic effort in this direction.
The path shown by Late Prime Minister Smt. Indira Gandhi is the only way to take India forward in community of nations. Flowerer tributes were paid on the photographs on the Indira Gandhi by number of dignitaries. .
