National Symposium Concludes with vow to address animal welfare issues

Ludhiana-05-Nov, 2011 – A three days National Symposium on “Emerging Management concepts for Sustainable Livestock & Poultry Production” and XIX Annual Convention of Indian Society of Animal Production Management (ISAPM) organized by Department of Livestock Production Management, College of Veterinary Science, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary & Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana successfully concluded today on 04.11.11 with the vow to meet next year at National Dairy Research Institute, Karnal (NDRI). A Plenary and Concluding Session started today at 10:30 AM at Punjab Agricultural Management & Extension Training Institute.  (PAMETI).  Dr. H. S. Sandhu, Dean, College of Veterinary Science was the Guest of Honour. Dr. D. N. Jana, President Indian Society of Animal Production Management (ISAPM) and Dr. A. L. Saini, Organizing secretary, Chaired and Co-chaired the session, respectively. Rappoteurs of different technical sessions held during the last two days read their report. During this occasion various awards were bestowed to the participants. Dr. T. K. Patbandha, NDRI, Karnal; Rohit Gupta and Samita Saini from GADVASU, Ludhiana got the Dr. N. S. R. Sastry Young Scientist Award . Dr. H. D. Chauhan, SDAU, Gujrat got the Smt. Kadambani Jana Award.  Eight Sisters NE Best LPM Research Award goes to Dr. L. Hmar from Central Agricultural University, (CAU), Aizawal, Mizoram. Dr. Prasanta Saikia from Mizoram, Dr. J. Muralidharan, Nammakal. Dr Parminder Singh, Dr Chandrahas, Dr V Sangawan and Dr MK Chateli From Ludhiana got the best oral presentation award. Dr Imtiwati from Pantnagar,  Dr Kuldeep Gupta, Dr Daljeet Kaur, Dr Jaswinder Singh, from GADVASU, Dr Manjeet Kaur from PAU and  Dr D Mridula from CIPHET received the best poster award.
Dr. Sandhu congratulated Organizing secretary and his team for successful completion of the conference. Dr Jana, the president of the society revealed that more than 250 delegates from 21 different states of India participated in the conference. Dr Jana also congratulated the whole organizing team including Dr VK Taneja Vice -Chancellor, Dr HS Sandhu Dean,GADVASU . They also congratulated the awardees.
Dr. AL Saini thanks all the participants, authorities, rapporteur , staff etc for their full hearted and tireless efforts to make this symposium successful. The gist of the proposed recommendation includes preserving the indigenous breed and upgrading the non descript animals, tapping the potential of un-conventional feed stuffs , making the livestock farmers aware about scientific  management practices and    animal welfare issues are needed to be strengthen.
