STOP MINDLESS SLAUGHTER OF WOMEN

Robert  FISK’s  firsthand report on the 10 month Independent investigation into the extent of the tradition of mutilation, rape and slaughter of young and innocent  girls for ‘dishonoring ‘ their families ( Perspective & OPED The Tribune dt September 19, 2010 ) was a realistic and down-to-earth write-up requiring no footage to script this ‘acceptable’ crime in Jordan, Pakistan, West Bank, Afghanistan, Egypt etc . This brutal practice from the so called custodians of Islam deserves the loudest  SHAME, SHAME…’from all countries of the civilized world.

One is  amazed at the insensitivity of the masses there amongst whom it happens publicly  but they not only tolerate it but also perhaps enjoy it and, in the process, aggravate it, least affected by the performance, leadership and personal achievements of women in the rest of the world.

Fist’s report should further goad governments everywhere to intensify awareness programs against gender discrimination and atrocities on women.  In this connection, Member Parliament   Harsimrat Kaur’s initiative NANHI CHHAAN for the empowerment and education of women with the sole objectives of curbing female foeticide in Punjab  and re-greening the state  now seems to have gathered steam and is certain to succeed.
