November, 28 : In response to the call given by Joint Action Committee of Non-Govt Colleges Management Federation – Punjab and Chandigarh, Federation of Associations of College Principals – Punjab and Chandigarh, Punjab and Chandigarh Teachers Union (PCCTU) and Federation of Non-Teaching Employees of Punjab. Colleges in Punjab and Chandigarh will observe College Bandh on Nov. 30. since it’s a joint call by Managements, Principals, Teachers and Non-teaching employees the work in colleges, which include of city colleges will come to a stand still. General Secretary of the Joint Action Committee (JAC) said that the policies of the Govt. of Punjab has created serious problems for colleges and its employees. Demands amongst other includes implementation of pension-gratuity scheme approved by Badal Govt. on Dec 12, 2001 under the Act of 1999 lifting of the ban on recruitment. Implementation of revised pay scales w.e.f. 1.1.2006 on the basis of parity with their counterparts working in Govt. colleges, release of pay scales, etc.
On November 30, after closing the colleges all the stakeholders will hold rallies and marches at Amritsar, Pathankot, Jalandhar, Hoshiarpur, Chandigarh, Ludhiana, Ferozpur, Anandpur Sahib, Patiala, Barnala and Malout. On December 7, after closing the colleges the employees will hold a rally of Sector 25, Chandigarh and court arrest to press for the acceptance of their demands.
In the meanwhile a deputation of JAC led by its General Secretary, Dr. Jagwant Singh met Punjab Chief Minister, S. Parkash Singh Badal the good offices of Dr. A. S. Brar, V-C GNDU. Chief Minister assured a meeting on the memorandum.
