A Seminar by international institute on “Swine Genetics” with Vet Varsity collaboration

Ludhiana-05-Dec, 2011 : A seminar on “Swine Genetics from Alberta: an opportunity for cooperation” was organized at  Hotel Park Palaza, Ludhiana by Govt of Alberta, Canada and Polar Genetic Group in collaboration with Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU), Ludhiana. Dr V K Taneja, Vice Chancellor of GADVASU, was chief guest on the occasion. He said that there is a need to increase production and productivity of swine and pork. As the population grows, more food is needed overall, as more consumers move into the middle income sector, they will demand more meat food in their diet, compare to starch. Dr. Harish Verma of Vet. and Animal Husbandry Extension Department delivered his lecture on status of pig farming in Punjab : constraints and opportunities.   Mr Alfred Wahl President Polar Genetics Group gave an overview of the Canadian Swine genetics industry and how it can work with the Indian market.  Mr Parkash Seth and Mr Grant Winton were other speakers on the occassion. The University official Dr J S Bhatti, Dr AL Saini, Dr V K Gandotra, Dr R S Sahota, Dr S K Kansal, Dr J S Hundal, Dr. Udeybir Singh and Dr. Chandrahas were also present on the occasion. Approximate 100 farmers of Progressive Pig Farmers Association, Punjab attend the meeting and interact with experts regarding new technologies, superior germplasm, nutritional practices and value addition of pork and pork products.
