PAU MEET ON VEGETABLE, FRUIT AND FLOWERS ON DECEMBER 8

LUDHIANA, DECEMBER 5: The “Research and Extension Specialists Workshop for Vegetable, Fruit and Flower Crops” will be organized on December 8-9 in Dr Borlaug Wheat Auditorium of the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU). Dr Baldev Singh Dhillon, Vice- Chancellor, PAU, will inaugurate the workshop.  The officers of the Department of Horticulture, Punjab, Directors of Regional Stations, Deputy Directors (Training) at Krishi Vigyan Kendras and Deans, Directors and Heads of the various departments of the PAU will participate in this workshop.
During the workshop, Dr L.S. Brar, Director of Horticulture, Punjab, will dwell upon targets, production and problems in growing of vegetables, fruits and flowers. Besides, the technical session will witness discussions on citrus, banana, pear, grapes, mango, guava, litchi, ber, sapota (chiku), peach and other stone fruits, minor fruits such as amla, pomegranate, loquat, jaman, etc. and plant protection technology for fruits. In another technical session, the experts will throw light on present status of vegetable production, plant protection measures for potato and other vegetables, mushroom cultivation, new hybrids & varieties  and low tunnel technology for cultivation of brinjal under net-house. There will be a technical session on “floriculture, agricultural engineering and technology, post-harvest management of fruits and vegetables” that will see deliberations on cultivation of gladiolus, marigold and chrysanthemum, disease management of commercial ornamental plants, protected cultivation and drip irrigation for horticultural crops.   The subject matter specialists of PAU from its different departments and outstations will discuss the technology with field level functionaries and officers of Department of Horticulture, Punjab and approve the new Package of Practices.  The feed back received from various quarters will be useful for reprioritization of research to make it need based.
