WORK IN COLLEGES COME TO STAND STILL ARRESTED TEACHERS RELEASED

The work in 170 Non-Govt. Colleges of Punjab and Chandigarh came to still as 48 hours stay in strike commenced. The house tests were postponed. In the meanwhile Principal Tarsem Bahia, PCCTU General Secretary, H.S. Walia and other 21 teaching and non-teaching employees were released by U.T. Administration in around 10 p.m.
The JAC decided to defer the house tests of Dec 8 and Dec 9 but allowed continuation of University Semester Examinations for at least four days. The JAC is awaiting the outcome of 2 meetings with the Govt. held on Dec 6. In the forenoon of Dec 6, Principal Secretary to CM S. Darbara Singh Guru held a meeting with JAC. He refered a 3 demands of pension and gratuity, revision of pay scales and allowances for non-teaching employees w.e.f. 1.1.2006 and release of arrears of pay scales to the Cabinet sub-committee which was schedule to meet later in the evening. The JAC also presented their case before the sub-committee. Sh. Guru asked Dept. of Higher Education to put up a proposal on other issues at the earliest.
In view of these meetings JAC decided to wait for sometime before intensification.
