World Bank team visits CIPHET to assess NAIP projects

Ludhiana, December 8:“We want to see how the projects going under National Agricultural Innovation Project (NAIP) are fitting into big picture of achieving overall growth in agriculture,” these remarks were made by Dr P.S Sidhu, who was heading world bank team, during the inauguration of two day meeting in connection with 10th Implementation Support Mission of NAIP Project at Central Institute of Post Harvest Engineering and Technology (CIPHET).
Speaking on the occasion, Dr P.S Sidhu said that they were here to get sense of the technical/financial achievements and how projects were going on meeting their objectives. “All the sub projects running under the NAIP are selected out of the competitive process and have got funding due to their potential,” he said, appreciating the consortium leaders who got these projects.
Dr V.K Taneja, Vice-Chancellor Guru Angad Dev University of Veterinary Sciences (GADVASU) praised CIPHET for development of technologies especially suitable for small entrepreneurs. Calling research initiative under the NAIP projects well orchestrated, he said that due to rigorous monitoring of these projects, technological output was really appreciable.
Saying that their major emphasis is on overall growth of the country, National Coordinator NAIP Dr R.K Goyal said that they were more interested on the impact of the technologies developed under the NAIP projects. Dr R.K Gupta, CIPHET Director, hoped that World Bank team would be getting required information to judge performance of the NAIP projects.
Major projects to be assessed for performance included ‘Mobilizing mass media support for sharing agro information, Value chain on potato and potato products, value chain on composite dairy foods with enhanced health attributes, value chain on novelty pork products in organized pig farming, Development of e-courses for B.Sc (Hort) degree programme, Establishing and networking of agriculture market intelligence center in India, Development of sustainable livestock farming system for livelihood security in Hoshiarpur district of Punjab etc.
