GADVASU inaugurated NSS Special Winter Camp

Ludhiana 10, Dec- 2011:     A seven days NSS Special Winter Camp with the motto “Tandrust Naujawan Tandrust Punjab” was started by NSS wing of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University. NSS volunteers/students around 150 of three colleges viz. College of Fisheries, College of Dairy Science and Technology, GADVASU and Khalsa College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Amritsar participated in the camp. The Winter Camp was inaugurated by Dr S. N. S. Randhawa, Director of Research, GADVASU. Besides chief guest, Dr P. D. Juyal, Registrar and Dr S.P.S. Sangha, DSW-cum-EO GADVASU were guest of honour and convenor on this occasion. Dr S. S. Hassan, Programme coordinator emphasized on the development of morality, ethics and positive attitude. The chief guest honored NSS badges to Dr S. S. Hassan, NSS Programme Coordinator, Dr Damanjeet Kaur of PAU, Dr Varinder Pal Singh of CODST and Dr Harmanpreet Singh of KCVAS, Amritsar and four students of all three colleges each. Ms Amardeep Kaur 2nd year BFSc student was awarded best NSS cadet of special summer camp which was held in GADVASU in the month of June this year.
    During inaugural function, motivational speeches were given by Guest of honour Dr P. D Juyal on the topic positive thinking and success. Dr S.P.S. Sangha delivered on role of NSS in social upliftment, he also outlined about objectives of NSS and chief guest Dr S.N.S. Randhawa on Drug abuse in youth and how people can overcome from addiction. Mr Satpal Bansal , Rtd. Bank Manager and Mr S. S. Juneja, Rtd. ASI traffic delivered lecture on moral talk on blood donation and traffic rule & safety respectively.
    Mr G. S. Bhatti, Asstt. Programme Advisor, NSS Regional Centre, Ministry of youth, delivered a lecture on incentives for NSS and schemes of NSS. Vote of thanks was given by Dr D. S. Aulakh, Welfare officer, GADVASU. An awareness campaign on AIDS/HIV, drug addiction, environment issues shall also be carried out. Other activities like beautification of college campus, cleaning drive, plantation, campus deweeding, soil filling in pits etc shall also be carried out. Blood donation camp will be organized in coordination with Govt. health sector for creating awareness and developing sense of donating character among the volunteers. 
    Students visited Gureh Pind (32 km away from Ludhiana) and did community work, cleaned Gurey Pind Gurudwara and made awareness campaign through charts, banners about HIV/AIDS, female foeticide and drug addiction and also personal meeting with villagers.
