BADAL GIVES NOD TO IMMEDIATELY RELEASE FREIGHT SUBSIDY FOR POTATO GROWERS

Chandigarh, December 12- In a major reprieve to the potato growers across the state, the Punjab Government today decided to immediately release freight subsidy from the Rural Development Fund (RDF) to ensure smooth, prompt and hassle free interstate movement as well as to accelerate the export of potatoes.
Disclosing this here today a spokesperson of the Chief Minister’s Office said that a decision to this effect was taken by the Punjab Chief Minister Mr Parkash Singh Badal by giving nod to a proposal mooted by the MARKFED- the nodal agency for the export of potatoes and cleared the file in this regard this morning.
The Chief Minister directed the Punjab Rural Development Board to immediately release a sum of Rs 2 crore from the RDF to the MARKFED enabling it to implement the scheme of Freight Subsidy to be given to various agencies/ individuals for interstate movement and export of potatoes.
It may be recalled that a delegation of potato growers called on the Chief Minister in the first week of December at Jalandhar, demanding immediate release of Freight Subsidy to ensure remunerative prices to them, as the bumper potato crop this year is either being sold below the market price or perished due to slow movement or recession.
