SUKHBIR LAUNCHES FEROZEPUR CLUSTER ‘SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT PROJECT’ FROM JALALABAD

JALALABAD, DECEMBER 13: Mr. Sukhbir Singh Badal, Deputy Chief Minister, Punjab today launched ‘Solid Waste Management Project’ of Ferozepur cluster from Jalalabad to ensure total cleanliness in the districts of Ferozepur, Fazilka and Faridkot. It may be mentioned here that the Punjab Government had already launched this Rs 700 crore unique project throughout the state by dividing it in nine zones and covering all the major cities and towns.
        Inaugurating the project here by flagging off Garbage Collection vehicles, Mr. Badal said that the garbage problem had taken a toll on basic civic infrastructure by creating different hinderances whether in the way of choking channels or unbearable foul smell of makeshift garbage dumps. He said that to check this menace, the state government has launched this program, which was firstever in the country, where whole state was being covered to make the cities and towns totally garbage free. He said that Rs 67 crore Ferozepur cluster project would take care of 18 cities and towns with 80 vehicles collecting around 280 MT garbage per day, which would be managed at a center being setup in Faridkot district. Under this project 2 lakh households and 9 lakh population would be covered and it would provide employment to more than 500 people. He said that this project has been undertaken by Jindal Ecopolis, a subsidiary of world renowned Jindal Steels Company. Mr. Badal said that with garbage of Ferozepur Cluster only 2 MW of electricity and 56 MT of compost would be produced as with this whole project 10 MW of electricity and 250 MT compost would be produced in the state. He said that in the whole state 52 cities were being covered and this project would be launched throughout the state  by 31st December of this year. He also announced to set up 50 bedded civil hospital in Jalalabad and a university in the region. He also listened to the problems of Commission agents, Rice  millers association and Advocates and announced to redress the earliest.
        Reiterating the SAD-BJP government’s commitment to upgrade the total civic infrastructure in all major cities and towns, Mr. Badal pointed out that thousands of crores rupees were being spent on ensuring 100% coverage of safe drinking water and sewerage besides constructing quality roads and street lights. He said that Punjab has witnessed development and growth on every front during last five years including 6669 crore investment in road sector, Rs 420 crore on construction of 42 ROBs and flyovers, Rs 19000 crore Bathinda Refinery giving employment to 37,000 youth, Rs 3715 crore on improvement of irrigation network, Rs 418 crore relining of minors and the previous regime of congress led by Captain Amarinder Singh has nil report to showcase. He said that against recruitment of few hundreds contractual temporary employees, SAD-BJP government has recruited 1.17 lakh out of which 70,000 and 20,000 were alone in education and police departments. He said that the recruitment during SAD-BJP government was online, totally on merit and done in a most transparent way.
   Mr. Badal expressed confidence that the people of state were wise enough to continue the pace of development by giving their repeat mandate to the SAD-BJP combine and promised to make the state number one state in the country.
        Prominent amongst others, who were present on the occasion Mr. Sher Singh Ghubaya, Member Parliament, Mr. Gurtej Singh Ghuriana, Chief Parliamentary Secretary, Mr. Prem Valecha, President District Planning Committee, Fazilka, Mr. Raj Chauhan, President Municipal Council, Jalalabad and Mr. Davinder Singh Babbal, Chairman Market Committee besides all the municipal councillors of the city.
