Awareness Campaign and cleanliness drive by NSS volunteers of GADVASU

Ludhiana-14-Dec, 2011: NSS volunteers/students of GADVASU made awareness campaign and cleaning drive in slum area Valmiki Colony, Srabha Nagar, Ludhiana on Monday. NSS volunteers/students also did work in identified slum areas to get exposed about NSS scheme and its practical works. They interviewed slum dwellers through questionnaire about existing problems like health hygiene, living conditions, disease prevalence and informed them about the precautionary measures. Awareness campaign on issues such as AIDS/HIV, drug addiction, health and hygiene, female foeticide through charts, posters and banners was raised in slum areas. The volunteers holded banners having slogans and raised voice for making the slum dweller aware and conscious about precautionary measures. Dr Adil Rasheed and Dr Lateef, faculty members of Khalsa College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Amritsar outlined about the slum dwellers, colonies and living conditions to the volunteers during the interaction session on “living condition of slum people”. Dr S. S. Hassan, NSS Programme Coordinator informed for improving the awareness of the people living in the slum areas about AIDS/HIV, drug addiction, female foeticide, unhygienic condition and its prevention. The campaign focused in reaching to urban slums and to inform slum dwellers about harmful effects of the diseases and suitable precautionary measures against these menace. Dr Hassan also informed about Govt. incentives and schemes for the slum dwellers. He said that and Govt. always supported poor people and try to improve their living conditions. Campaign was an attempt to reach out to the people of slum areas and educate them about the need to build healthy surroundings to stay healthy. Students personally interacted with slum people and advised to make life fruitful.
