BASMATI AND POTATO FARMERS VICTIM OF ‘POLICY PARALYSIS’ BEING OBSERVED BY CONGRESS LED UPA GOVERNMENT: SUKHBIR

BATHINDA, DECEMBER 14: Mr. Sukhbir Singh Badal, Deputy Chief Minister and President Shiromani Akali Dal today said that Punjab Basmati and Potato farmers were victims of ‘policy paralysis’ of Congress led UPA government, that has become totally insensitive to the problems of farmers in its daily exercise of survival.     Talking to media persons after workers rally here today Mr. Badal said that there was no government worth name at Centre and despite repeated SOS messages from Punjab government to allow the export of Paddy 1121 and potato to neighbouring and Gulf countries, the Union government has failed to take any decision. He said that lakhs of Basmati and Potato farmers were suffering in Punjab due to ban on export and they are cursing Congress party for their fate. He said that SAD-BJP government had been sensitive to the demands of farmers and has already sanctioned freight subsidy to the potato farmers but in the absence of any export, the traders feared to pick-up their produce from the market.   Lashing at Captain Amarinder Singh for his failure to take the cause of farmers with the Union Commerce Ministry, Mr. Badal said that he was camping in Delhi to pre-pone the code of conduct so that all development works of SAD-BJP government could be brought to a halt. He said that Captain was having a negative personality and can not do anything positive for the people of Punjab.
Speaking about the preparations of Moga rally, Mr. Badal said that it would be the largest ever rally in the world and would mark the beginning of decimation of congress party from the political scene of Punjab. He said that Shiromani Akali Dal would soon announce the list of candidates and probable candidates have already been sounded regarding their candidature.
Earlier, Mr. Badal laid the foundation stone of Akal University at Talwandi Sabo to be set up on a piece of land of 40 acres. On this occasion Jathedar Sri Damdama Sahib Giani Balwant Singh Nandgarh and other religious personalities were also present.
