Blood Donation Camp by NSS volunteers of GADVASU

Ludhiana-14-Dec, 2011    :Dr Naved Aslam, Sr. Cardiologist of Dayanand Medical College and Hospital, Ludhiana inaugurated a blood donation camp organized by the National Service Scheme (GADVASU) in association with State Blood Transfusion Council (SBTC), Punjab at Silver Jubilee Block, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana on Sunday. NSS volunteers and students of GADVASU attended the event. During inaugural function, Dr S. S. Hassan, NSS Programme Coordinator welcomed the gathering and dignitaries and motivated students/volunteers on blood donation. He focused on three pillars to a healthy social life – charity, goodness and peace. Dr Hassan added about charity, a feeling of sympathy, goodwill, sincerity and helpfulness, without such noble feeling no healthy social life and blood donation is possible. Chief guest Dr Naved Aslam, cardiologist addressed the gathering and informed on the objectives of donating blood and morality behind blood donation as also the benefits to both the donor and the beneficiary. He also said that during many situations patients need blood transfusion and blood donation is a supreme and noble service to the mankind. Dr P. D. Juyal, Registrar emphasized the development of blood donation objective amongst youth.  Dr S.P.S. Sangha, DSW-cum-EO and Convener of blood donation camp extended their support for this noble cause. Dr H.K. Atri informed about the importance of blood donation and need of blood every year in hospitals of Punjab and India.  A total of 30 units of blood were donated by the volunteers including programme coordinator and NSS officer. Dignitaries interacted with the donors and encouraged them for taking up this cause of giving someone the gift of life. They also complimented the organizers of the blood donation camp for their effort.
