CIPHET to organize national seminar on packaging & cold chain logistics

Ludhiana, December 15:Aiming to deliberate on recent developments in packaging and storage of food products, Central Institute of Post Harvest Engineering and Technology (CIPHET) is going to organize a National Seminar on Post Harvest Packaging, Cold-Chain Logistics and Instrumentation Techniques from December 19 to 20 at its campus. More than 30 delegates including resource persons from across country are likely to participate in the seminar.
The seminar focused on accessing current status of this sector would be divided into technical sessions of post harvest handling and pre-packaging technologies; design, optimization and application of packaging and instrumentation techniques; distribution, storage, transportation, quality assurance and shelf life enhancement of food.  “A huge potential exists for packaged fruits and vegetables in both organized and un-organized sector. For this, food needs to be preserved and packaged to provide longer shelf life and quality to consumers. In near future, plethora of options would be available to customers,” revealed Dr Deepak Raj Rai, Head Transfer of Technology Division and Convener of this seminar, adding that new emerging trend would create opportunities and challenges for all stake holders. 
Terming significance of this seminar very high, Director CIPHET Dr R.K Gupta said that it would create an appropriate forum for all stakeholders including scientists, technologists, engineers, teachers, processors, retailers, entrepreneurs and industry etc by bringing them on one platform for deliberation on recent developments. He hoped that seminar would help in chalking out future strategies for development of technologies to especially benefit small and medium domestic industry, retailers and farmers.
