CHANDIGARH DECEMBER 15:The state finance department today released the balance payment of Rs.21 crore to the vendors, who supplied bicycles to the government
under the Mai Bhago Vidya Scheme for providing bicycles free of cost to girls studying in government schools in class XI and XII across the state.
Disclosing this here today a spokesperson of the Punjab government said that under Mai Bhago Vidya Scheme 1.50 lac cycles worth Rs.41.35 crore were to be distributed amongst the girl students of class XI and XII. Agaisnt the demand of Rs.41.35 crore orders worth Rs.30 crore were placed with the vendors dealing in bicycle manufacturing in the first phase. These orders were duly executed by the companies and subsequently 1.05 lac bicycles were delivered to the schools across the state.
The spokesperson further said that against this supply, a payment of Rs.9 crore had already been released to the companies and balance payment of Rs.21 crore had now been released to the concerned vendors. The spokesperson, however clarified that the balance orders amounting to Rs.11.35 crore was yet to be executed by the companies and thus the question of payment at this stage does not arise.
