GNDU Syndicate Meeting

Amritsar, December 22–  Guru Nanak Dev University Syndicate which met here today under the chairmanship of Vice-Chancellor, Prof. A.S. Brar.
    Dr. Inderjit Singh, Registrar of the University presented the agenda of the meeting. Dr. Rajinderjit Kaur Pawar, Dean, Academic Affairs of the University was also present in the meeting. In his address, Vice-Chancellor said that the University Grants Commission has awarded Guru Nanak Dev University, the Centre with Potential for Excellence in Life Sciences (CPEPA) and a grant of Rs. 6.15 crores for research on "Genetic Basis of Cancer and Type-2 Diabetes Mellitus in Punjab". Prof. Brar said that he has been represent the Guru Nanak Dev University as a member of  high-powered Committee of CABE  (Central Advisory Board for Education) on University Reforms constituted by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Department of Higher Education, Govt. of India. He also represent the University UGC regulations 2010 as a member.
    Prof. Brar said that the University has won Overall Champion Trophy in North-Zone Inter Youth Festival which was organized by Association of Indian Universities.  Prof. Brar explained about the different seminars and lectures which were organized by the different departments of the University in October to till December, which were organized by Centre on Studies in Sri Guru Granth Sahib, Department of Guru Nanak Studies and Department of Sociology and Law Department. He also explained about the Sardar Bishan Singh Memorial Lecture and Amardeep Singh Memorial Lecture which were organized by Botanical and Environmental Sciences and Punjab School of Economics.
    Vice-Chancellor also informed the House that during UGC-NET examination which was held in June 2011, eight students have been qualified in this exam. He said that with the efforts of Placement Cell of the University 507 students of batch 2012 has been selected by various national and multinational companies. He said that Dr. Balwinder Singh, Head of Guru Ramdas School of Planning has been appointed as member in Heritage Advisory Committee for 2011-12 by Himachal Government. Prof. Harbhajan Singh Bhatia from School of Punjabi Studies has been elected for Shromani Punjabi Sahit Alochak Puraskar. Meanwhile, Prof. Dr. Narpinder Singh from Food Science and Technology Department has been awarded for fellowship from National Academic of Sciences, India. The Librarian of Bhai Gurdas Library, Dr. H.S. Chopra has been appointed as Core Committee member for Punjab Public Library Act 2011.
