Capt Amarinder welcomes Jan 30 elections; festive mood among Congress workers

CHANDIGARH, December 24: Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee President Capt Amarinder Singh today welcomed the holding of elections in Punjab on January 30. “Sooner the better”, he remarked while reacting to the Election Commission of India’s announcement that elections to Punjab assembly will be held in a single phase on January 30, 2012.
Expressing confidence that the party will win a landslide victory, Capt Amarinder said, there was lot of enthusiasm and excitement among the party rank and file as they had been eagerly awaiting the announcement of the elections in Punjab.
He pointed out, the Congress workers across Punjab celebrated the announcement with bursting of crackers and distribution of ladoos, indicating that they had already smelt victory. “It is already a festive mood in Congress”, he remarked, while adding, “the cadres are celebrating much ahead of the elections indicating how confident they are about their victory”.
The PCC President maintained that the Congress was perfectly geared up for the elections. He pointed out, the recent 40 rallies held during the past one and a half month have already mobilized the cadres. “The momentum has already been accelerated during these rallies”, he said, while maintaining that the Congress was far ahead of other political parties, particularly the Akali Dal and the BJP.
He said, the Akali-BJP leaders and workers were feeling demoralized over the early announcement as they wanted the elections to be delayed as their leaders particularly the Chief Minister Mr Parkash Singh Badal and the Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal tried to keep on continuously fooling the people by inaugurating half baked projects and making false announcements which they knew they could not as they need not fulfill with imminent election code of conduct coming into force.
