CHANDIGARH DECEMBER 24: The Punjab government today decided to abolish Octroi on the supply of petrol and diesel within the municipal limits of the
towns and cities across the state with an immediate effect. Disclosing this here today a spokesperson of the Punjab government said that a decision to this effect was taken by the Punjab Chief Minister Mr. Parkash Singh Badal. He further said that the state government also decided to compensate the municipal councils/corporations by making payment to them from the VAT in lieu of octroi in accordance with the prevalent practice to ensure their economic viability and financial sustainability.
