Shimla : A high level meeting of Horticulture Department will be held on 5th January, 2011 at Shimla for discussing the use of Standard Universal Carton. Horticulture Minister Shri Narender Bragta will preside over the meeting which will be attended by the MLA’s of apple producing areas, members of Zila Parishads and the progressive fruit growers of the State.
Shri Bragta said here today that it had become necessary to use Standard Universal Carton by replacing Telescopic Carton so that they could compete with International Standards and get the remunerative price for their produce. He further added that the Carton being used presently by the fruit growers had many drawbacks including heavy grading, preparation of extra layers for quick disposal, blockage of air slots and low storage capacity etc. and these were responsible for low rates. Whereas, Standard Universal Carton had many advantages and it certainly benefit the growers.
Shri Bragta said that State government would go for a consensus before taking final decision. The fruit growers would be made aware of the advantages of replacing the cartons in practice with standard universal cartons and after taking their suggestions, Government will take its decision.
