TRAINING COURSE ON PRESERVATION OF FRUITS AND VEGETABLES CONCLUDES AT PAU

LUDHIANA, JANUARY 6 : A four-day training course on “Preservation of fruits and vegetables”
organized by the Directorate of Extension Education in collaboration with the Department of Food Science and Technology, Punjab
Agricultural University (PAU), for the farmers and farm women, concluded here today. The course saw the participation of 20 trainees
from across the Punjab. Speaking at the concluding function, the chief guest Dr K.S. Minhas, Head, Food Science and Technology, PAU, laid emphasis on the preservation of fruits and vegetables in view of their health benefits. Asking the trainees to try the food items at their home also, he highlighted that nutritious and healthy food is must for the body to remain fit. Dr Minhas said that those interested in starting their own food business venture, can seek guidance from the PAU Department of Food Science and Technology.
Dr P.S. Ranot, Technical Coordinator of the course, informed that the participants were imparted training in the making of 12 food items which include mixed fruit jam, pickles, kinnow squash, nectar, sharbats and candy, muraba, sauce, pury and chutni with the usage of amla and tomato. Besides, the course familiarised the farmers and the farm women with other home made preparations.
Dr (Mrs.) Rupinder Kaur, Course Coordinator, proposing the vote of thanks, informed about the PAU training programmes to take place next month.
