Training programme on post harvest inaugurated at CIPHET

Ludhiana, January 17: A five-day training programme on “Post Harvest Technology for Rural Catchments” for participants from Jalgaon, Maharashtra, was inaugurated here today at Central Institute of Post Harvest Engineering and Technology (CIPHET). Around 15 farmers including women are taking part in the training programme.
The training programme would be focused on minimal processing and modified atmosphere packaging of vegetables, scientific methods and quality assessment in food crops, surface covered cultivation, value addition technology for guava, post harvest management of fruits and vegetables, low cost storage of fruits and vegetables and preparation of composite cattle feed from waste potato etc.
Speaking on the occasion, CIPHET Director Dr R.K Gupta encouraged participants to adopt processing to get maximum returns of their crops. “While this training programme would provide overall information on post harvest technologies, after this farmers should chose more specific areas to get specialized training,” he added. Head Transfer of Technology Division Dr Deepak Raj Rai, informed the participants about various technologies to be covered under training programme. He assured all help to farmers even after completion of training programme.
Senior Scientist Dr Sangeeta Chopra hoped that training programme would empower the farmers to set up their own processing units. Technical Official Dr O.P Moondan was also present on the occasion.
