PATTI (TARN TARAN), January 18: Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee President Capt Amarinder Singh today announced that the next Congress government will set up a commission of inquiry to look into and investigate each and every case of vendetta against the party workers and hold the guilty accountable be they the Akali leaders or the police officials. He reiterated that the Congress government will also improve the aata-daal scheme by providing further subsidy to the poor as also provide free power to farmers.
Addressing an impressive public meeting organised here today, Capt Amarinder lashed out at the Akali-BJP government in the state for having let lose a reign of terror on the Congress workers and having indulged into the worst type of corruption. He pointed out, the Akalis did not spare anything ranging from sand mining to cable business. “Name anything and they have grabbed it”, he remarked.
Having a dig at the Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal for seeking a fifth chance, he asked, what has been his achievement during four terms. He said, people of Punjab made him Chief Minister four times and he has not a single achievement to his credit. Advising Mr Badal to retire, he said, a man who cannot remember his own age cannot be expected to do any good to Punjab. He pointed out, the Chief Minister was not sure as how old he was and he was dreaming of getting a fifth term.
Capt Amarinder asked Mr Badal to list a single achievement during his four times for which he could be remembered. Instead, he said, he organised sangat darshans wasting precious money which could be used as matching grants for various centrally sponsored schemes and programmes particularly those under 16 flagship programmes of the government of India.
The PCC President promised that the Congress government will improve the education and healthcare system to make it more affordable. He said, Punjab was growing in two ways, those who can afford best education and healthcare and those who cannot. He said, “we need to provide best education and best healthcare to those who cannot afford it”.
The former Chief Minister said, Punjab needed investment and for that an investment friendly atmosphere was needed to be created. He said, 900 industrial units had already moved out of Punjab during the last four years. “We need to build up their confidence so that they stay back”, he said, while adding, this was important for economy and employment generation.
He appealed to people to vote for the party candidate Harminder Singh Gill to ensure that Congress forms the government in the state.
