CHANDIGARH/LUDHIANA, January 24: Senior Congress leader and former District Congress Committee Ludhiana (Urban) president Jagmohan Sharma today retired from the contest in favour of the party candidate Gurmail Singh Pahalwan at the behest of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee President Capt Amarinder Singh.
Mr Sharma announced his decision after a meeting with Capt Amarinder early morning today at his residence. He told the PCC President that he has been a loyal and disciplined worker of the party for last 38 years and he had decided to retire in favour of the party candidate from Ludhiana East, Gurmail Pahalwan. He said, he will work and ensure the victory of the party candidate from this constituency.
Capt Amarinder assured Mr Sharma that the party respected his long association and service to the party. He said, he appreciated the sentiments of Mr Sharma and once Congress comes to power, it will ensure that Mr Sharma is given due respect according to his stature and seniority in the party.
