CHANDIGARH, January 25: Col Babu Singh, who had filed his nomination papers from Nihal Singh Wala as an independent candidate today retired from the contest in favour of the party nominee Ajit Singh Shant.
Col Singh said, he had retired from the contest in favour of the party candidate Mr Shant in the larger interest of the party. He said, he will work for the party and ensure that Mr Shant wins from a huge margin.
Welcoming his decision, the PCC President Capt Amarinder said, Col Singh will be given due respect with honour and dignity in the party.
Only yesterday Mr Jagmohan Sharma, from Ludhiana East also withdrew from the contest in fvaour of the party candidate Gurmail Pahalwan.
