CHANDIGARH, January 30: Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee President Capt Amarinder Singh today congratulated the people of Punjab for reposing and reaffirming their faith in democracy by participating in the elections in large numbers in a peaceful manner. Predicting a clear Congress victory, he said, party was set to cross the 70 seats this time.
He also hailed the Election Commission of India for conducting free and fair elections in the state.
Maintaining that the Congress was set and certain to get more than 70 seats in the elections, he said, the very fact that people voted in overwhelming numbers all across the state is a clear indication that people were upset with the Akali-BJP government and they came out to vote against the government’s misrule and non-performance.
He stated that the feedback from across Punjab had suggested that the party was all set to form the government in the state after the results are declared. He remarked, “we are confident that people have reposed faith in us and the results are likely to go beyond our expectations”.
Capt Amarinder also congratulated the Chief Election Commissioner of India Mr SY Qureshi and the Chief Electoral Officer Punjab, Ms Kusumjit Sidhu for the conduct of free and fair poll in the state against all odds.
