Amritsar, February 3 ( )– Dr. Narayana Murthy Chairman-Emeritus, Infosys Technologies Limited, Electronics City, Bangalore visited the Faculty of Sports Medicine & Physiotherapy of Guru Nanak Dev University recently.
Professor (Dr.) Jaspal Singh Sandhu, Dean, Faculty of Sports Medicine welcomed the eminent scientist on his visit to the Department and appraised him about the activities of the Department. He said that the faculty aims to promote the teaching, research and scientific application of sports sciences not only in India but also at International level.
He said that this is the only University of the Country which launched Sports Dental Clinic for the Jaw injuries of the Sports Personnel. He said that this is the only University of the region which provides sports medicine cover for the sport person of the region.
He said that at present, the faculty has labs for conducting research in the field of sports science including neurophysiology lab, motion analysis lab, human performance lab, biochemical lab, hydrostatic underwater weighing lab, sports psychology and exercise physiology lab.
Dr. Murthy appreciated the state of art research laboratories of the faculty and was very impressed by the standard of the research and academic flora set by the faculty. The research work being carried on the sportspersons of the region was acknowledged and further insisted that it should be taken to higher levels to cover a broader group of sportspersons of the country.
He emphasized on the need of Sports Medicine for making India surge ahead in international sports. Apart from faculty members, students of the department also got the opportunity to interact with the Eminent Scientist, Dr. Murthy.
