PAU TO HOLD SEVEN KISAN MELAS IN MARCH

LUDHIANA, FEBRUARY 3: The Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) will be organizing its Kisan Melas  at different places in Punjab during March, 2012.  This time, PAU is celebrating its Golden Jubilee Year-2012 and will be organizing a Kisan Mela at Khalsa College, Amritsar in addition to six others.  The theme of Kisan Melas will be ‘Pawan Guru Paani Pita Mata Dhart Mahatt’ (Conservation of air, water and soil health).
The series of Kisan Melas will start with the Regional Kisan Mela at Khalsa College, Amritsar, on March 7 followed by that at Ballowal Saunkhri (District Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar) on March 12, Bathinda on March 14 and at Rauni (Patiala) on March 16. The Regional Kisan Mela at main campus of PAU will take place on March 21-22, while the melas at Faridkot and Gurdaspur will be organized on March 27 and 29, respectively. Besides, showcasing the latest agricultural techniques and technologies, the Kisan Melas will provide an opportunity to the participating farmers and farm women to visit exhibitions, technical stalls and interact with experts with regard to their scientific queries. The mela will also apprise the visiting farmers of the new innovations and technical know-how of farming. The farmers can also purchase farm literature, new seeds and planting material during these Kisan Melas.  The proceedings of the mela will also be aired on Doordarshan and All India Radio.
