Training on micro-encapsulation begins at CIPHET

Ludhiana, February 14:A three-day training program on ‘Micro Encapsulation Methods for Food and Biotechnological Applications’ was inaugurated here today at the Central Institute of Post Harvest Engineering and Technology (CIPHET).
Entrepreneurs, scientists and researchers  are taking part to enhance their knowledge in the micro-encapsulation. Notably, Micro-encapsulation is a process in which tiny particles or droplets are surrounded by a coating to give small capsules with many useful properties. Micro-encapsulated food and medicines can be designed to deliver core materials slowly over time. This helps in regulating the controlled release over time or locations of choice in body for the most effective performance of the core substance.
Welcoming the participants, CIPHET Director Dr R.K Gupta called for the need of collaborative research for developing micro-encapsulated products especially in the field of health foods. “We have developed some gazettes and instruments for micro-encapsulation,” he said, adding that in coming years this new technology has very high potential. CIPHET Senior Scientist Dr K. Narsaiah said that lot of work on micro-encapsulated had been done in medicines for control release to desire parts of the body. “We want these concepts to be used for developing effective tailor made foods products to meet particular requirements.”
